As I drove down the California coast with the ocean flanking the highway, I smiled gratefully for the gorgeous ocean views. I rolled down my windows and turned up the radio. It was a beautiful summer day to photograph a rustic outdoor wedding in Carlsbad, California. A playful, loving couple, who looked absolutely perfect for each other were getting married that day, and their friends and family couldn’t be happier for them.
Melissa and Ben got married at Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park in Carlsbad. It is one of my favorite wedding venues to photograph because of the rustic, and elegant landscape, the ocean breeze, and the stunning peacocks that roam freely on the grounds. There were dozens of peacocks, fanning out their colorful feathers in pompous grace. The peacocks were extra boisterous (apparently wedding season coincides with their mating season) and even had the audacity to interrupt the wedding ceremony with a mating call. The officiant, the guests, and the bride and groom, happy as can be on a beautiful wedding day, easily forgave them. The bride and groom continued a second round of “rock, paper, scissors” to decide who should read their wedding vows first. Melissa and Ben are such an adorable couple and I’m thankful to, Ericka G. Photography for having me as her second photographer to help document such a joyous outdoor wedding at Leo Carillo Ranch Historic Park.
