I
t is late November, and the city of Kamakura is ablaze in autumn colors. The grounds are peaceful apart from the quiet murmurs and ruffle of leaves beneath the feet of many visitors. The striking colors of red, yellow, and fiery orange leaves attract many admirers.
Inspired by the stunning colors of fall leaves, we ventured to Kamakura, Japan for portraits inspired by the beautiful autumn season. Kamakura is a city south of Tokyo, and is also known as “Little Kyoto” because this city resembles the breathtaking natural views of Kyoto. Ancient structures also make for a beautiful backdrop.
Kamakura is easily accessible from Yokosuka, and is a great place to go to admire the changing seasons in Japan. The beauty of the city can be appreciated as you stroll through the streets, lined with bright yellow ginko trees, and red Japanese maple trees. Kamakura is home to many ancient temples, with immaculately maintained gardens. One of the largest temples is Engaku-ji which was built in the late 13th Century.
Fall is my favorite season because it is so colorful and transforming. It’s a lovely reminder that there’s beauty in change. Below are portraits of Victoria, inspired by the fleeting fall season.
