US Marine Homecoming in San Diego

Excitement and anticipation filled the air as families gathered with homemade welcome signs, their arms at the ready to wrap around their loved ones, and welcome their marine home.

Charlie, being as patient as can be, clung to his mom’s arms and waited as planes flew loudly overhead, preparing to land. In just a few moments, he gets to meet his dad for the first time. His dad is a pilot and a US Marine. He was on deployment for several months and unfortunately, missed the birth of his first son.

It was touching to capture this beautiful little family reunite.  It was a chilly San Diego afternoon, but the skies were blue and the sun still shone brightly to welcome the marines home to sunny San Diego. Below are a few favorite photos from this heartwarming military homecoming.

Charlie is six months old and already looks so much like his father. I love this photo of John holding his son, Charlie for the first time. Look at Charlie’s tiny hand on his dad’s arm.

Emily looked beautiful and she was beaming.  John would alternate between looking at his beautiful wife and his son, Charlie.

This photo of little Charlie peeking through as his mom and dad share a kiss makes me smile.

After their welcoming, we took some time for a few portraits in the plane.

The photo below warms my heart. It’s apparent that John is in love with his adorable son. Here’s Charlie on his first flight lesson with his dad. 

Welcome home, John! Emily, thank you for trusting me to photograph this special moment with your beautiful family. It’s an amazing feeling to have him home after so many months apart. Thank you both for your service and sacrifice.
