Katie + Kyle are Engaged! | Torrey Pines Beach Engagement

e is compassion, organized silliness, and endless patience. She is a razor-sharp math whiz, soft-spoken and spontaneous. Together, Katie and Kyle go on weekend adventures that are usually full of laughter. Coincidentally, they are practically neighbors and might have crossed paths before they met online.  They had their first date at Oggi’s, a pizza and brewing company in San Diego, but between the amazing conversation and laughter, they could easily have been mistaken for two great friends on their 50th date.

Katie and Kyle have been dating for two years and are engaged to be married! For their engagement session, the lovely couple chose Torrey Pines State Beach for their special location. Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is arguably one of the most beautiful and picturesque place in San Diego. It makes for an incredible engagement location. Located in La Jolla, and atop the trails and rocky cliffs that are lined with beautiful Torrey Pines, you feel on top of the world. Amazing views of the Pacific Ocean and rock formations are breathtaking, and well worth the hike! Katie and Kyle often hike and walk along the beach on their adventure-filled weekends.

Below are favorite photos of Katie and Kyle’s adventurous engagement session at Torrey Pines in San Diego.

Just days before, San Diego was experiencing record highs for it being “winter” time. The day of our engagement session at Torrey Pines, however, the fog rolled in, and soft clouds blanketed the sky. The cooler temperatures definitely made the hike much more pleasant! It also gave Katie and Kyle’s engagement photos a peaceful, and romantic tone.

Natural caves carved along the rocky cliffs made an awesome backdrop for their engagement pictures.

The ocean views in contrast to the rocky background was beautiful!

The views from the cliffs overlooking the beach was incredible. No fear of heights here! I love how Katie and Kyle are so adventurous.

How Kyle Proposed to Katie:

We had planned a trip to Utah to visit Kyle’s parents. The plan was to stop in Vegas on the way there. Upon arriving in Vegas, Kyle started making comments about “if our belongings would be safe in the hotel”. Katie couldn’t understand why Kyle was so concerned about anyone breaking into the room, because as far as she knew the only things we had in the room were clothes. The next day we drove to Utah, where Kyle’s family lives. We had plans to go hiking at Zion National Park in the morning. As we were were hiking, Katie was taking in the beautiful views of the cliffs and waterfalls. Meanwhile, Kyle was lagging behind, peering behind bushes, which seemed odd to Katie but she didn’t think much of it at the time. We stopped under a bridge near the river to take a picture. Katie had her back to Kyle and commented on the “smell” of the horses that had just passed by, as she turned around Kyle was on one knee with a beautiful ring in his hands. Katie was so surprised and couldn’t stop laughing at the timing of her comment adding to the romantic moment, meanwhile Kyle was still nervously waiting for a “Yes”. Katie said yes and all of Kyle’s strange behavior finally made sense. It was a perfect proposal because Kyle was actually able to surprise Katie (which is not easy) and it is a great representation of the non-stop laughter and goofiness in our relationship. 🙂

When they’re not working, Katie and Kyle are usually out and about hiking, enjoying weekend trips, cooking new recipes, stir-frying up a storm, or satisfying their sweet tooth with delicious dessert. (I can’t wait for your doubly sweet wedding! haha)  They adore their two furbabies and love hanging out with their two cats.
