aby Piper was in full baby model mode for our newborn session. She was in dreamland pretty much the entire time during our three-hour newborn photoshoot, and didn’t flinch even when her big brother, Brinkley barked. Newborn Piper is only six days old in these newborn portraits. Isn’t she the sweetest little thing?
The newborn baby’s parents, Lena and Paul are overjoyed about their little girl… Lena remembers crying and being overwhelmed with joy like she’s never known when she first held Piper in her arms.
Newborn baby Piper Jean, is named after her mom’s late mother, Shirley Jean who passed away from cancer a couple of years ago. Piper is showered with so much love by family and friends. I loved seeing all of her cute, girly outfits in her nursery. It was really sweet to see Lena and Paul holding their daughter in their arms, with their dog, Brinkley afoot.
Below, are a few of my favorite photos from our newborn portraits in Lena and Paul’s home in San Diego, California.
I love this photo of Brinkley, their family dog, with newborn baby Piper.
Baby Piper was super cozy in the basket.
Lena and Paul nicknamed newborn baby Piper, their “Little Peanut”. I thought it would be perfect to photograph Piper in this peanut-shaped woven basket…complete with a yellow bow, of course!
Lena is originally from Ohio, and actually grew up on a farm, so it was perfect to photograph newborn baby Piper while she is snuggled up in this farm crate.
Baby Piper definitely worked the camera. It’s always a treat to capture a smile when the baby is sleeping. This is one of my favorites from the newborn photoshoot: a beautiful family, with a happy, sleeping baby in her mom’s arms. Look closely, Piper is smiling!
I asked Lena to share helpful advice for expecting moms on how to prepare and care for their first baby. Read on for some words of wisdom when it comes to welcoming and caring for your newborn:
“Welcome help, and have ready made meals after delivery. For the first 2 weeks keep it just the couple and your new baby…. Learn your baby first, the newborn baby’s schedule, and bond. I highly recommend button-up, soft, cotton shirts. They are even better than onesies on a newborn…. Lastly, you can never spoil a newborn too much. Your newborn baby needs to feel comforted by lots of hugs, to be held and to receive constant attention because your baby needs to be able to trust you.”
Thank you Paul and Lena, for inviting me into your home, and trusting me to photograph and pose your precious newborn baby girl. I hope that you cherish these photographs of your baby! She is truly a beautiful work of art!
xoxo,
