Crystal Pier Engagement | Brooke + Devin | San Diego Engagement & Wedding Photographer

“We are a little nervous,” Brooke confesses with a smile. She was holding hands with Devin and they both chuckle. I knew that these two were going to be a blast to photograph from our first meeting, and after just a few minutes infront of the camera, these two confirmed they were a happy-go-lucky couple–smiling and laughing pretty much the entire time. Brooke and Devin chose to have their engagement photos taken at Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach in San Diego. Crystal Pier is one of their favorite places.

As we walk together,  I look out into the ocean and marvel aloud at how calm the ocean is right before the sunset. It is low tide during golden hour in San Diego…it’s a photographer’s dream.  “This looks like crap to me,” Devin says lightheartedly while gazing out at the same view. I’m not offended. He’s an avid surfer and goes surfing pretty much every day. To a surfer the water was way too calm. With the ocean breeze blowing, Brooke takes his hand and leads him to the side of the pier where she watches him surf.

They laugh together. A lot. It’s the kind of laughter that you can’t help but join in on. There’s a carefree quality about the two of them when they are together and it was beautiful to capture their love on camera.

It started to get very chilly when we were under the pier, with the tide rolling in and the frigid water swirling around our feet. As we wrapped up the last few shots, Brooke huddled close to Devin and like a gentleman, he drapes his jacket over her shoulders. We start to walk back to the boardwalk, and Brooke recalls what she was thinking while Devin was kissing her under the pier, “the water was so cold, but his lips were so warm… and I felt like the luckiest girl on earth.” …At this, Devin smiled from ear to ear.

Brooke and Devin, congratulations on finding each other. I had a great time hanging out with you during our engagement session and I can’t wait to document your wedding!
