T
he sky was a silver oyster, the streets of San Diego still shining from a light rain earlier that morning. The bride and groom were getting ready for their wedding day at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
When I first virtually met with Eric and Yalitza via Skype video chat, they both come off as shy, smart, and kind. I instantly liked them. On their wedding day, they seemed to have a dozen inside jokes. Eric could make Yalitza smile brightly with a drop of a hat. Yalitza and Eric were introduced by mutual friends at Eric’s birthday party, and the rest, as they say, is history.
The fun couple have a unique style, which they incorporated beautifully in their wedding held at Chula Vista Woman’s Club in San Diego: retro, yet modern, classic, yet original, elegant and still playful.
Their wedding was absolutely charming complete with a modern take on Cinco de Mayo. It was perfect, since their wedding day landed on the Mexican holiday. There were countless details that nodded to the bride’s Mexican heritage, and the groom’s Japanese heritage.
Their charming wedding day was filled with love. Childhood friends from all over the world, including Japan, flew in to San Diego to celebrate Yalitza and Eric’s wedding.
Their wedding ceremony was held at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. We then went to Balboa Park in San Diego for romantic bride and groom portraits before heading to Chula Vista Woman’s Club to kick off the wedding party.
Below are photos from the beautiful couple’s wedding day in San Diego, California:
The gorgeous bride wore a backless lace and nude wedding dress with powder blue shoes (her something blue).
The groom wore a gray three-piece suit with a colorful kimono-print handkerchief, a polka-dotted tie, and a succulent boutonniere.
Yalitza’s father walked her down the aisle of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Chula Vista.
Eric in awe of his beautiful bride…
Guests enjoyed a mariachi band at their wedding ceremony and reception. Lovely pops of fuchsia in bridesmaids dresses and florals provided bursts of color against a white palette.
Portraits were taken at Balboa Park in San Diego. The iconic Organ Pavilion was a beautiful backdrop for bridal portraits.
I love this photo of the groomsmen looking adorable while holding the bridesmaids’ bouquets.
Against the silver sky, hundreds of “papel picado” (which literally translates to “pecked paper” in Spanish) in intricate designs streamed across their reception ceiling and garden area for outdoor cocktails. It looked simply charming paired with market lights.
Watercolor paintings are one of my favorite things and the framed artwork added to the charm.
Their tiered cake was beautiful with simple pops of fuschia. Their cake topper was adorable and looked just like them! Freshly made chocolate-filled churros as well as green-tea cream-filled churros were also served for dessert. I think filled churros needs to be served at every wedding. Who’s with me? 🙂
The bride and groom had a specialty cocktail. That sounds delicious!
We stole a few moments during reception at Chula Vista Woman’s Club for photos with a retro-fitted photobooth van.
I love this photo of the newlyweds!
The couple danced their first dance as husband and wife to Sam Cooke’s “Nothing Can Change This Love”.
Congratulations, Eric and Yalitza! Thank you for trusting Kristine Marie Photography to document your charming wedding day. I hope you enjoy the photos!
xoxo,
