Of all the Starbucks in San Diego, Nicole happened to choose the coffee shop where Stephen works. There were other Starbucks nearby, but this location was close to work and her coffee tasted better there. Perhaps, it’s also because she is drawn to the barista who makes her coffee. Each time she stopped by for coffee, she would work up the courage to talk to Stephen a little each time.
One day, when Nicole was out of earshot, a regular customer hinted to Stephen, “I think that girl likes you.”
Before you know it, Nicole and Stephen were making plans to spend time together. Fast forward two years of dating, and they’re engaged to be married! She is unconventional and quirky with a dorky laugh that Stephen adores. Nicole is intelligent, caring, and generous. Stephen is kind, resourceful, and learns to master whatever he sets his mind to. He has a warm smile with a bright personality. Both of them are loyal and devoted to each other–pushing each other to always see the silver lining, to stay positive, and simply be better people.
Nicole and Stephen chose to have their engagement session in San Diego at La Jolla Cove Beach where palm trees line the streets and cliffs jut out over the ocean. If you’re lucky, the lapping waves at low tide will let you explore the rocky coves. At sunset, they shared a slice of cake by the ocean.
During their engagement photos, the two of them explored La Jolla Cove, hand-in-hand and embracing in between laughs. It’s out-of-this world, when you find the one. It’s a long reach beyond simply amazing–and as Stephen describes it, “her love is intergalactic”.

Nicole wore a beautiful, flowing, red dress and sandals rivaling the golden sunset–an auspicious color combination in Chinese culture.
How He Proposed:
It was on a Monday. Stephen’s manager drafted a fake schedule so I believed he was working that day because the schedule showed he was working. He spent the day preparing for the proposal and never worked that day! Sometime after the store had closed, he contacted me and said his car wouldn’t start. I raced over to the store to help him. He came up to my car and we walked away from his car. I was confused. When we turned the corner of Starbucks, someone was playing the violin. I was so shocked and started to realize what was happening. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!!! The happiest moments of my life have been moments spent with him. I love that he proposed to me where we met. I love that it was at night after the store had closed and only two other people were there. It was intimate, romantic, and beautiful. He handpicked the songs that were played on the violin and had it recorded in audio and video formats. I was completely shocked and my only regret is that I didn’t look very good when he proposed. That’s how you know it was really a surprise!
