ittle did they know that their first kiss under the stars and fourth of July fireworks five years ago would lead to their engagement and then to this day. In the five years since they’ve dated, Bryce and Tina have collected amazing memories together as a couple and as best friends. It was also clear that their families have gotten close and that Tina gained two sisters long before today. Bryce and Tina have so much adoration for each other that it was practically brimming from their hearts and faces on their wedding. They celebrated their love for each other surrounded by their family and close friends in La Jolla at the Darlington House on a gorgeous day in San Diego.
Bryce and Tina opted to do a first look and see each other before the ceremony. It was such an emotionally charged moment and it was awesome to capture it. There were tears…on both sides of the lens.
Because Bryce and Tina did a first look, we had more time for portraits in a variety of settings at the Darlington House before guests arrived.
Bryce and Tina wrote their own vows. He took her on an emotional roller coaster ride during the ceremony at La Jolla Darlington House. She laughed…
She cried…
She made him hers forever.
And Bryce wouldn’t have it any other way…
Preparing for the first day of their lives together began at 6 am on September 21, 2013, but Operation Wedding Amazingness was in full force weeks before the big day. Bryce and Tina along with their wedding party, worked so hard to craft together beautiful, themed details, including a craft beer bar–complete with a hand-crafted sign and his and hers beer as gifts for their guests. “Oh hoppy day,” indeed! I think I may have hopped up and down in excitement (just once or twice) when I saw it. I can see Bryce totally hanging the beer sign in his man cave at their home.
Guests’ names were artfully scripted on vintage window panes and in keeping with the theme, tables were named in craft beer categories, of course.
I smiled so widely when I saw how Tina and Bryce incorporated their engagement images that I captured for them. Images from their childhood as well as images from their engagement session were hung throughout the outdoor patio where guests enjoyed cocktails and various hor’s d’oeuvre, while live music played.
The happy couple played a fun paddle game. I learned that Bryce can be quite a chef in the kitchen. What a catch, Tina!
Heartfelt speeches followed and glasses of champagne flowed. As did some happy tears.
The newlywed couple danced to a rendition of Earth, Wind & Fire’s, September under the stars at La Jolla Darlington House, and it was perfect. Bryce held his beautiful wife in his arms and in that moment, you believe that the song was written just for the two of them.
I like to think that years from now, when they’re in the car driving home from a mundane trip from the store, maybe with a couple of kids in the backseat, this classic song will come on the radio:
Do you remember the 21st night of September?
Love was changing the mind of pretenders
While chasing the clouds away
…and Bryce will reach for Tina’s hand. Then just like that, it’s as if they’re back on the dance floor, in each other’s arms.
Maybe they’ll share a kiss across the seat and laugh about the fun they had on their wedding, including the highlight of the evening: The Father Daughter dance medley. In one word? Adorable. And epic. (OK, that was two words.)
Thank you, Bryce and Tina, for inviting me to document your AMAZING wedding day at La Jolla Darlington House. Cheers to a long, happy, beautiful marriage!
With Love,
